Core License Features

Licenses for CrossComm Media Reader™ are issued on a per-application basis. The following features are available to every CrossComm Media Reader™-based application.

User Interface

  • Performance-optimized hierarchical list view of content
  • Visual indicator (e.g. blue dot) to designate to the end-user whether content has been viewed or not
  • Custom branding: unique graphic or logo on the loading/splash screen, as well as custom font and color choices1

Intelligent Preloading and Caching

  • Content is cached and loaded asynchronously to provide a responsive user interface. Application works with cached data when offline or away from internet connectivity.
  • Optional content preloading is available which will download assets in the background for offline browsing.

Rich Text Viewing

  • Include HTML-based rich text articles with inline images, headlines, and text styling based on CSS.
  • Automatically parses data from any Atom or RSS compliant feed, including mRSS nodes.
  • Ability to aggregate multiple feeds with the Media Reader interface (1 included).
  • Can be configured to use proprietary asset security protocols such as tokenizers or logins.
  • Creates an image gallery from image content within the feed automatically and allows for trackback links to article where content appears.
  • Image gallery can be optionally edited by the user to allow for customized organization of content.
  • Video feeds can be used within the MediaReader framework as well to provide easy access to video assets through the interface.
  • External web-based apps can be included through the inclusion of a URL (to be hosted by the licensee) in the data feed that is displayed in a WebKitView screen.

Image Browser View

  • Thumbnail image view available when browsing collections of images (note: low-resolution images must be included within the data feed for optimal performance).
  • When viewing a single image at a time, “previous” and “next” images may be accessed through sideways swipe gesture.

Advertising

  • Interstitial ads may be displayed while content loads
  • Banner ads may be displayed at the top of rich text stories/articles
  • Ad clicks can bring up the target URL in a WebKitView screen
  • Supports ad services including but not limited to AdMob, Adwhirl, Greystripe, Millennial Media
  • Future support for the upcoming Apple iAd advertising service

Documentation

  • A sample reference RSS feed is provided to each licensee to ensure compliance with the standard data feed format.

Audio and Video

  • Separate section for an audio/video feed
  • iPhone compatible audio and video clips are displayed within the native iPhone media player, using Apple’s native playback controls.
